Nagisa has such a complex and emotional backstory (the one presented within Magia Record) and while I love the memes, I'd also love to see her analyzed the same way as the Holy Quintet girls more.
When it comes to Nagisa's relationship with her mother, it is clearly emotionally and verbally abusive in a very realistic way. Nagisa loves her mom. Her mom is still her mom despite everything, and Nagisa wants to love and forgive her. Nagisa also hates her mom; The mom who yells at her, is implied to hit her, and tells her she's wasting money and time. Nagisa tries her best to support and care for her mom despite everything; she acts like a hit dog still coming back to the hitter because it's all she has.
Speaking of dogs, I want to draw parallels between Nagisa and Inui. Kyuubey specifically mentions that another girl in similar circumstances* (*to Nagisa) wished to have the attention of the boy she liked; cut to Inui, who talks to Kyuubey about her worries with the Sleepwalking Ghost and her boyfriend. From this we can guess that Inui is impoverished, has a difficult relationship with her mom, and has the same goal as Nagisa; to be loved in a conditionless way by someone who endlessly hurts them.
Inui is a perfect parallel for Nagisa; Nagisa has become disillusioned with the concept of "love" to the point of viewing all fairytales and stories in a gloomy light; Nagisa has not been loved in the way a child needs to be loved, and so cannot fathom the type of carefree love shown in fairytales. Inui on the other hand is so desperate for the attention and love she hasn't gotten she's gotten into a relationship with (presumably) the first douchebag who showed any kind of interest in her; she craves a fairytale romance and to be swept off her feet by a prince and so in her mind Sho can't be anything but that prince. Both of them cling to their delusions and coping mechanisms while further being hurt by people supposed to love and protect them.
Nagisa resents her mother despite craving her affection; she considers using her wish to make her mom regret being unkind to her (a vengeful fantasy of an abused child [she hopes for an apology and for things to become perfect]) before finally settling on making her mom unknowningly seal her own doom (ie, the cheesecake).
Nagisa's cheesecake is an incredibly important object for both literal and symbolic purposes. She wished for it instead of saving her mother's life; It represents her final revenge against a woman who never treated her kindly. It also represents the unobtainable love Nagisa searches for even as Charlotte; "unable to make the cheese she loves" aka "unable to obtain love". There is a more uplifting (albeit dark) symbolism here too; that being Charlotte's unfortunate decapitation of Mami. Mami, who in Rebellion is Bebe's caretaker and mother figure, is eaten by Charlotte: Mami is the "cheese" Charlotte loves and has finally found.
Nagisa is abandoned by everyone: the only one who hasn't abandoned her is her mother, who is convinced Nagisa will abandon her. They have a vicious cycle of mistrust and dependence. Right before she becomes a witch, Yuu promises "I'll never leave your side"; after taking the only person who never abandoned Nagisa, Yuu promises "I'll never leave your side". Those were some of the last words Nagisa heard: the crippling loneliness, guilt, and betrayal that sunk in is what caused the birth of Charlotte. What makes it worse is those are words Nagisa was likely told by her parents at some point: afterall, parents will say anything to comfort their child, especially before something like hospitalization or leaving the family entirely.
Nagisa is 12 at her oldest possible age and 8 at her youngest possible age. She is a tragic figure on the same level as Sayaka, Kyoko, and Mami. The only true closure we have for her at the moment is her relationship with Mami (and the other Holy Quintet members) in Rebellion.

Smile!
In Magia Record's re-run of the Nagisa's Wish event, Yuu has at long last been given a canon design, and she's adorable.
In the past, I drew a design for her myself (here, and here) based on the old silhouette they used and I talked a bit then about the similarities I saw between her and Nagisa's appearances. Have a look at those for context if you'd like, because I'm going to revisit that again here with her new look. Below the cut ↓
To start with, some of the things I pointed out on Yuu's silhouette as being shared with Nagisa's magical girl outfit did not survive to her final appearance, such as the fuzz around the edge of her neck frill, the shorts she wears, and the bows along her tails and across her frill.
Though the tails themselves which I compared to the pompoms hanging from Nagisa's hat did survive, that alone isn't enough to draw a connection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it seems unlikely that when Nagisa made her wish, her appearance was influenced by Yuu being the first and only magical girl she'd met up to that point.
We can scrap that idea.
However, the parts of Yuu that I noted as resembling Nagisa's witch form, Charlotte... those do still hold up. When you look closely at Yuu, she has rings in her eyes which aren't present when she isn't transformed, and we now know that she uses her horn as her weapon.
Charlotte has a pure white face and a split open mouth, like Nagisa's mother described her killer. This is the strongest piece of evidence which the rest of it is built upon.
Charlotte attacks with her face as well.
And admittedly, perhaps reaching a little here, Charlotte as a worm has a cone-shaped pointy nose that might resemble Yuu's horn.
They also just both have clown energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Huh. Looking at these pictures I'm now wondering if I could draw a comparison between Charlotte's head wings and the bundles of cloth hanging from either side of Yuu's head.
...
Yuu was instrumental in Nagisa's transformation over the course of the story, from someone accepting of the abuse she experienced every day into a person seeking to cut ties with her family and create her own freedom, and then Yuu played the part of the person who mistakenly took Nagisa's agency away from her at the end which is what tipped Nagisa over the edge, so I like the idea a lot that Nagisa's grief made manifest from that event took a form that recognises the significance of the Sleepwalking Ghost.

Witch quintet inspired by Scene Zero Nagisa who takes on Charlotte's colours because of Madoka's wish to revert her witch into a magical girl
Some of these certainly work better than others and it's kinda a shame Homulilly is so similar in colours to Homura, but the small changes are still kinda nice

My theory regarding our 3 new girls:
We all know that Nagisa and Sayaka are Madoka's "secretaries", brought back from becoming witches, so I immediately thought of these 3 in the same way.
With that background information in place, I went through the list of witches in the original 2011 TV anime:
Charlotte, Gertrude, Elsa Maria, Oktavia, H.N.Elly, Gisela, Roberta, and Walpurgisnacht. (I didn't include the ones we only saw familiars for)
We can immediately rule out Charlotte & Oktavia since we all know they are Nagisa & Sayaka. Furthermore, I doubt either of them are going to be Walpurgisnacht because we already know she's an amalgamation of girls, and who I have a separate theory for.
That leaves: Gertrude, Elsa Maria, Gisela, Roberta and H.N Elly.
After that I decided to rule out the witches we only saw in flashbacks, which were Roberta & Gisela.
So, we have a perfect 3 witches left: Gertrude, Elsa Maria, & H.N Elly.
I think the most on-the-nose obvious one would be the green girl as gertrude:
Tumblr media
She obviously has the green hair which is commonly associated with plants, i personally was reminded of leaves or trees when i saw her, which are present in the background. She also has a purse with flowers on it, but other than visually there isnt much else to go off of.
A friend of mine brought up that the tattoo on her nail isn't the same as the symbol on Gertrude's grief seed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Initially I'd said it could've been a placeholder or that it disproved the theory but I later realised that Mami's fingernail is also different to her soul gem & grief seed, so it's still possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I think takes away the credibility of the theory is the lack of rose imagery, considering gertrud's obsession.
Secondly, H.N Elly as Cinnamon Buns:
Tumblr media
The reason I think she's H.N Elly and specifically not Elsa Maria, is because of this section of the puellamagi wiki:
Tumblr media
And we can see this girl is still a mitakihara student, probably a first year at that since she seems young, as a similar age to Nagisa.
Its also evident that Elly has pigtails, which I thought held some relevance since Mami's hair looks like ribbons, parallel to Candeloro's arms being ribbons, and Nagisa's pigtails being present in Charlotte: (PART 1: REBLOG, CHECK TAG "PUELLA'S KAITEN THEORY" )

Walpurgis no Kaiten SIDE:HOMURA trailer reactions
I admit, when this was first announced, I didn't think it was going to be a big deal. I was expecting something similar to the Wnk 1.1 trailer, which had an extra scene tacked on but what otherwise identical to the original release. I was not expecting an entirely remixed version combining both of the previous trailers + new footage, with a lot to unpack!
Because of the way SHAFT creates the films, backgrounds are done separately from character animation and then combined. Still, there's something very eerie about seeing these otherwise familiar shots devoid of people, not to mention the symbolism of the empty thrones combined with the shot of Devil Homura being cast down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, I repeat my assertion that in spite of their obvious differences, these two spaces are two versions of the same thing--"reality" and "illusion" (inasmuch as those terms apply anymore in this space.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The shot of the spinning fans and stained glass are from the same location as the staircase tower where the headband!Homura is falling. Also, if you look closely, you'll note a familiar figure in the crossed shadows at the center of the screen, partially hidden behind the fan. Kyubey spotted, this is not a drill.
(How does this space work? I have no idea, but I'd bet money that it rotates so that the orientation is constantly changing, because "spinning in circles" is such a big theme, both visually and metaphorically.)
Tumblr media
Nagisa has died and gone to heaven (literally on both counts) and is now consuming a parafait as big as her head. She's never going back, lol.
There is a teddy bear in a cage visible in the background along with a monogrammed "R". Granted, witches are supposed to use runes, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't remind me of Roberta the Birdcage Witch, who appears briefly in episode 10 of the original series. (It contains human legs and not a teddy bear, though.) Considering that Charlotte's birthday candles appear behind Mami in a different shot, it sure seems like witches and attributes of their labyrinth may be openly manifesting in Mitakihara as reality breaks down.
Oh, and speaking of hands, you can see the mark on Nagisa's nail in this shot, so she's definitely still a magical girl.
Tumblr media
The bears also appears as winged cherubs in the carousel scene a few moments later. The heralds of the Last Judgement sounding the trumpets? A symbol of childhood innocence? Another spinning thing that goes around and around? Being taken for a ride? All of the above?
Once again, Nagisa and her double are juxtaposed here as mirror images and reflections of each other, and they're enjoying themselves immensely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene of an unknown hand reaching out to caress a comatose Homura's face and examine her teeth like a horse is disturbing and rightly so. I've seen a lot of people saying that this is the same hand that stabs the salamander, and I agree--this is our primary antagonist, whoever she is (pity her nails aren't visible, as that would give the game away).
[As an aside: what is this unknown person wearing, because it sure isn't a Mitakihara school uniform.]
This is the same Homura that is visible through the mirror--their eyes and headbands are the same. I knew something was off about this when I saw it in the original trailer, and now I have proof. Ditto for my assertion that this movie is going to involve constructs and artificial persons--that may be Homura, but right now it's an empty shell with no personality. The real question is why construct it in the first place?
Also, I might be reading too much into this, but I think it's unwise to assume that the hand that is holding the mirror belongs to the Homura reflected within it. I think this is the unknown person (let's be real, probably also the antagonist Homura) giving instructions to her minion/doll/construct/Homunculus. For evidence, I just have a gut feeling that this movie is going to do screwy things with selfhood and mirrors and reflections, and also the background in the mirror appears to be more like the background in the face-caressing shot than it does the background of the sky in the shot itself. We'll find out when the movie comes out what's actually going on there.
Tumblr media
Examining the teeth is a Nutcracker reference, but it sure doesn't make this scene any less disturbing.
What happens next is not shown, but given the general theme of "people falling backwards", I expect that this Homura construct will do the same thing. Where else is there for her to go?
The background light in this scene makes me wonder if it takes place at the same time (or at least the same time of day) as Devil Homura falling. And now we get to see the aftermath!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the stunned face of someone who fucked around and is just now finding out. Note the crossed shadows over her face (same as with Kyubey above) and how one eye is cover/one wing is still intact--more "half" imagery.
(But who threw her down? Who threw her down?? Did she fall on her own or was she pushed??)
However, you can't keep Homura down for long, and she immediately counterattacks, summoning her salamander (who is now swole as hell) for a power-up. This is the money shot of the trailer and for good reason--it's visceral and compelling. Magical girls are powered by their emotions and here Homura takes the manifestation of all her feelings straight into her heart; it doesn't get any more symbolic than this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to being straight out of The Adolescence of Utena, what's most striking to me about this scene is how the world is literally dissolving into blood. We saw the same thing in Rebellion when Homulilly manifested, so whatever happens next will likely parallel that scene in some fashion or another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, yes her wings are partially white now. No, I don't know what that means. I don't know what any of the feathers means, exactly.
The giant salamander concerns me: what the hell has it been eating to get so big? Considering that Homulilly's nature is self-sufficiency, i.e. she draws strength from her own suffering, this does not bode well for Homura at all....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last but not least, we have Madoka surrounded by some kind of "spirits" representing anonymous, faceless young women in virginal white gowns a la Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon. Combined with the cathedral aesthetic, my guess is that these represent the Eternal Feminine within the Law of Cycles and/or Madoka herself, which she is oblivious to. There are 15 of them, as 14-15 continues to be a significant number in this franchise for reasons I still don't fully understand.
There isn't an official translation that I know of, but piecing together the trailer voice-over with what's come before and what people are saying with my rudimentary Japanese, I think it goes like this:
Watashi wa kibou no tomo ni - "I will go with hope" in Madoka's own voice, from original trailer
Zankoku no made ni yasashii kagayaki, - "A cruelly gentle glow", new dialogue, spoken with multiple voices.
kibou wa anata to tomoni - "Hope will go with you" in Madoka's own voice, also from original trailer
watakushi no inori no kigen - "the origin of my prayer", new dialogue, multiple voices, using the formal feminine pronoun watakushi, which no one in the cast has historically used for themselves. Hence why I think these voices are part of the Law of Cycles/the Eternal Feminine - it would make sense for them to use this pronoun!
anata to kanaeta kiseki wa kitto watashitachi o michibiite kureru.-"The miracle I made with you will surely guide us" in Madoka's own voice, also from original trailer.
sono yasashi-sa de anata o kizutsukete shimau - "I will hurt you with my kindness", Homura, new dialogue.
(EDIT: Official English version is up, and I was wrong about the last line, it's "With that kindness, you yourself will be hurt". They also translate the second line as "A radiance so kind, that it is even cruel", which ties back into the imagery for the Law of Cycles and also Homura's remark in the original anime about kindness leading to greater cruelties.)
Also, while I haven't tried this myself, I've seen several fans report that if you play the scene backwards, you get Homura saying "shiawase no tame ni" (for happiness) as she transforms, so it looks like we did get some backmasking, just as I'd hoped, and I'm so delighted to have called that one.

Madoka Magica: Witchswap AU
I've been sitting on this idea for too long with nothing material to show for it, so I might as well speak it into the world so somebody else can enjoy it and maybe make it themselves:
PMMM Witchswap AU: An alternate universe where all the Magical Girls encountered in the series are Witches by the start, and all the Witches encountered in the series are Magical Girls by the start.
So, instead of Mami, Kyoko, and Sayaka, you have Candeloro, Ophelia, and Oktavia. Instead of Charlotte or Uhrmann, you have Nagisa and Inui Itsumi. So on and so forth.
In my head, I like to think that the focus of a Mitakihara-set Witchswap story could be that the girls all learn about a very special Witch that is incubating somewhere in the city, its Grief Seed waiting to hatch (like Charlotte's in Episode 3): Kriemhild Gretchen. Kyubey surmises that Kriemhild's Grief Seed is uniquely capable of holding an effectively infinite amount of Soul Gem impurity, and so any Magical Girl that obtains it would never have to fight Witches again, allowing them to return to a normal life.
Thus begins a race against both the clock before Kriemhild Gretchen hatches & destroys the world in just a few days, and against all the other Magical Girls hunting for the same treasure.
Naturally, a theoretically infinite recharge Grief Seed would be able to give all of these Magical Girls normal lives, but only if they trust each other enough to share. But if they think any one of them might whisk it away for themselves, then that motivates them to just keep it for themself instead. It's a self-fulfilling thing.
Not to mention the girls would have to decide between trying to defeat Gretchen and keeping the Grief Seed, or giving it straight to Kyubey before it hatches so as to ensure the world won't be destroyed.
I like to think that Kriemhild Gretchen's Familiars would be able to leave her still-forming Labyrinth and they'd be found in the Labyrinths of the rest of the Holy Quintet's Witches. If a Magical Girl encounters these Familiars, they'd be able to track their magical signature and be better equipped to search for & find Kriemhild Gretchen's Grief Seed.
(I suppose an infinite recharge Grief Seed could also fit Shitori Egumo/Embryo Eve/Ui Tamaki, but I like to think that in a Magia Record Witchswap AU, Ui is fine and it's Iroha that becomes a Witch instead).

I adore madoka magica but when i think about it too hard the amount of inconsistencies that pop up from the soft magic system confuse the ever loving shit out of me
POINT ONE: what the fuck is all of the magic in episode one??? What are the purple light beams Homura is shooting??? What fucking gun is that Akemi??? Why can Mami heal Kyubey??? Can magical girls heal other people or just themselves??? Cause I thought healing other people was like a special thing only Sayaka (in this story) can do??? What’s up with the weird texture that pops up when Mami arrives??? It shows up when she makes the ribbon barrier to block Sayaka and Madoka from Gertrude in episode two, is that just like a force field she can set up??? That’s never explained, is that her magic power??? Cause
POINT TWO: what the actual fuck is going on with Mami??? Magical girls have a weapon and at least 1-2 magic powers. This is very consistent, Homura has a shield, time stop, and hammer space, Sayaka has a sword, healing powers, and speed boosts, Kyoko has a spear, barriers, and illusions, and this was seemingly true of Mami too, until fucking Portable happened. At first it seemed that her weapon was Guns and her magic powers were Ribbons and potentially the other weird shit she does that no one else does (Sayaka’s magic bat, seeming safety circles, healing Kyubey), but her guns are made of her ribbons, meaning she either doesn’t have a weapon or doesn’t have a clearly defined magic power. What the actual fuck is going on with her????
POINT THREE: All of Charlotte’s Labyrinth. Why is her grief seed outside of the hospital when according to her Magia Record story she witches inside the hospital? Why hasn’t it already hatched? Where’s the big witch explosion when it hatches? Where is her body? Why does the labyrinth form BEFORE the grief seed hatches??? On the topic of Nagisa, what’s HER magic power?? Is it the weird cake ritual thing?? The thing she does with the serving platters to homulily’s familiars? Cause I thought those were witch power things?
POINT FOUR: Why do Elly and Izabel pull people into their labyrinths when witches are supposed to gain power by people committing die? Or if they gain power by drawing people into labyrinths and eating them, why do the people the Witch Kiss not enter labyrinths? Also what are the exact effects of a witches kiss? Why does Gertrude’s make a woman try to jump off a building but Elly’s starts a death cult? Is it based on the strength of the witch? Cause Elly goes down in one hit to the weakest magical girl in the show so that can’t be it. Is it based on their nature/“curse”? Because then what does Izabel’s “vane” nature have to do with Homura’s relatively unspecific ideation in episode 10?
POINT FIVE: what the fuck happens when a familiar becomes a witch?? Why do they still drop grief seeds despite not having soul gems from which they hatched??? If they don’t produce energy from their conversion like magical girls do, why do the incubators allow this to happen??? Isn’t it wasteful??? Also will they be carbon copies of their witch??? Are there just TWO Albertines in Mitakihara????
POINT SIX: How did the cycle start?? What was the first magical girl fighting if there weren’t any witches that existed yet???? I understand this is nitpicky but were they fighting wraiths???
I have so many questions please help QwQ

Something about cheese 🧀
I love the designs of witches in Madoka Magica. Gekidan Inu Curry, the designer for the witches, is a GOAT. Witches all have that paper vibe going on with them. So, let's list all the witches that appeared in the anime so that you can see what I mean by, "Paper Vibe™" (Also note I'm going by the wiki) + Gertrud
Tumblr media
+ H.N Elly (Kirsten)
Tumblr media
(Side note for Elly is that we actually see her 2 different forms [Should I call it forms? Idk]. The picture above is when Sayaka killed her and the other one is when she's inside the television. Also, the picture above only shows up for about a second.)
Tumblr media
+ Gisela
Tumblr media
+ Elsa Maria (Poor her, got murdered by Sayaka)
Tumblr media
+ Oktavia von Seckendorff (Seyiku.....)
Tumblr media
+ Izabel
Tumblr media
+ And of course, Walpurgis!
Tumblr media
But wait a minute.... I feel like I'm forgetting someone.... OH RIGHT! + Charlotte!!
Tumblr media
[Steppy steppy Homu] See those images? Now those are the #PaperVibes™ I'm looking for! Well except for Walpurgis who has 3D cog wheels instead of a paper vibe™. All witches look like this paper vibe™ but for the one I almost forgot; Charlotte, why is she the only exception to this rule? She's entirely animated like everyone else in the series. No other witch is drawn like this. She's the only exception when it comes to this rule. Well, the only NORMAL witch that is exempt from this rule. Ultimate Madoka's "witch" also doesn't follow the paper vibe™.
Tumblr media
It's more drawn than paper bashed. And that's ok since Madoka is the most powerful magical girl thus making this one, the most powerful witch. So of course, it's gonna break the rules, same with Walpurgis. It's also drawn with its difference having 3D rendered cog wheels.
So why does a normal witch get the animated treatment? By Goddess Madoka, EVEN HOMURA has the paper bashed witch.
(Thank God Homura got the paper bashed witch treatment, I am gonna throw hands if she didn't. Look how beautiful that is...)
Tumblr media
So why in Goddess Madoka's name does Bebe get the animated treatment, when we consider her, a normal witch? We can chalk this up to the animation team just wanting Bebe to stand out from the rest (Because she's the witch for the #IconicSceneAlert) and nothing more. Buuuuut... That's boring. So let me try to reason out why Bebe looks different from every other witch.
Tumblr media
[Let me yoink this witch]
Ok, so about Bebe.... Well, what about her? We have nothing to go on if we're only talking about the main series. We don't know anything about her apart from her personality and design. Her wish? Nothing. Her past? Nothing. So how do we talk about someone who doesn't have anything? Well, we go to another universe silly! Magia!~ Record!~ (Cue the SONG)
Tumblr media
Not that universe but another another one!
Tumblr media
There we go. MAGIA~! RECORD~! (NOW cue the SONG) The game one.
In Magia Record they expanded much more on Nagisa, giving her an event titled: Nagisa's Wish! (If you want to watch it)
Tumblr media
(Me and Nagisa have the same reaction after finding out the event is literally named Nagisa's Wish)
So, let's go back to her witch appearance for a moment. In Magia Record you fight her and EVEN in this game, they decide to make Charlotte look "normal".
Tumblr media
Most, if not all, witches still look papery even in the game. I say most and not all because of the NA shutdown and I have no idea of anything past Arc 1 Magia Record (I'm still finding free time to catch up to Arc 2). Doppels and Rumours ALSO follow the papery rule.
Tumblr media
There is one exception to Bebe's appearance and that is Nagisa's doppel.
Tumblr media
[Now that's the papery vibe™ I'm looking for!]
So why does Bebe have a different art style than ALL of the other witches? Let's go to her MGS in Magia Record (Metal Gear Solid!? No, Magical Girl Story)
So, in her MGS we see that she's being followed by a Pink Kyubey which we can safely assume is Goddess Madoka. Why can we assume that? First, her transformation (when you get her in the gacha). It starts with the symbol of the law of cycles.
Tumblr media
Second, it's literally Goddess Madoka pulling for her in her transformation.
Tumblr media
[Go get that 5-star girl]
She's also putting make-up on Nagisa and making her look human.
Tumblr media
Well not literally making her look human. You can read this as Goddess Madoka, preparing her to blend in because you know. She's half magical girl half witch already at this point. So of course, you gotta blend her in. So, we've made it clear that the Pink Kyubey is Goddess Madoka, watching Nagisa from afar. How important is Nagisa that THE Goddess Madoka, THE concept would get you to do work for her instead of another magical girl. Well firstly, she can't choose any of the 5, because Goddess Madoka is essentially killing the Magia Record version of them by putting another version in their body. Nagisa is the closest choice for Goddess Madoka because.... Because.....
Tumblr media
[LMAOOOOO I HAVE NO IDEA WHY. SAME MAMI, SAME. Look I get that Bebe is the closest to them because she killed Mami?? I mean you could say that to Gertrud, Esla Maria, Gisella. Every other witch could have fit the Bebe position. But I'm not complaining that they used Nagisa btw.]
But this does bring up the fact that Nagisa is special in one way or another.
Ehemm... Back to the topic at hand.
So why does Bebe have a different art style than all the other witches. One theory I have is that Charlotte, the witch, has more control over their witch body compared to other magical girls. Like she's more accepting of what happened to her compared to other magical girls. She succumbed to despair, just like any other magical girl. But unlike the others, she chose to bathe in despair. Enjoy it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[From Magia Record - Nagisa's Wish]
Other magical girls wallowed and grieved in despair. Not Nagisa no. She accepted this despair because there was nothing more she can do, there was nowhere for her to go anymore. She lost everything. So, when she became a witch, she was more in tune with it. She was more welcoming of her faith than other magical girls. (Ehem Homura, ehem...) Can you blame her though?
If everything in your life went wrong and then suddenly for a moment. Everything went your way. Would you not want to stay in that moment forever?
In her witch labyrinth she could eat all the cheese she wants.
For her, cheese was equivalent to her mother's love.
I mean, her mother loved cheese.
Tumblr media
She on the other hand, didn't. After becoming a witch, she began to see cheese as a symbol of her mother. She loved chasing cheese; she loved eating cheese.
For her, chasing cheese began to symbolize her wanting to get her mother's love. That is why she's so obsessed with it. All she wanted was to go home with her mother.
Tumblr media
Her life was a tragedy and she saved herself from it. By ending her tragedy of a life, she began a new and better life.
She could eat all the cheese she wants.
She could have all the snacks she wants.
She could choose from the varieties of cheese in the room!
This is the HapPiEst she has ever been!
Why would she deny herself this happiness?
The princess has finally found a place where she can happy! The End
Tumblr media
Bonus!! So, while I was looking for a screenshot for the end of my post. I saw this happy Nagisa. And I thought to myself... "Wait a minutos, why is she happy? Shouldn't she have memories of everything that happened?" Well, for a fact she does. I mean, Sayaka remembers everything, she just forgot because Homura made her forget. Homura didn't do it to Nagisa. So, it's safe to assume she does remember. So, she's happy because Homura won? Not exactly. In rebellion the scene with Sayaka and Kyoko where she interrupted them, she said.
Tumblr media
So, if we go by what she said. We can assume she doesn't care about the Rebellion event. She's just happy that she gets to exist again. Back in 2015, the Madoka concept trailer.
Tumblr media
The happiness Nagisa wants is not in Heaven. It doesn't exist there. So, when Homura to dragged Madoka down, she destroyed Madoka's "Heaven" where Nagisa lives. She now lives in reality again. Where she can eat cheese again and experience all the things she never got to experience. So, for her, what Homura did is something that actually goes for her favor. We love a selfish cheese loving character.

I still have some other characters I need to place somewhere such as: hitomi, kyosuke, and yuri. Then I will be doing the witches, and then after that it’s oc time. I miiiiight use the protagonist from ddlc but I might not, idk.
also it just occurred to me that sayori being Telemachus is a bit of an issue bc uhhh sayori is girl and well….. it’s kinda important that Telemachus is boy…. Welll, maybe I can fuck around with sayori’s gender a bit for purposes of fitting with music…. She shall use she/he pronouns, and just be homura & madoka’s son. We don’t acknowledge anything beyond that lmao (unless y’all have any suggestions)
tag list
(tell me if u wanna be here! I won’t do every post, just major ones)

Oh yeah, have you heard “Sis Puella Magica!” yet? I’m sure you heard it in the series, for sure you did! It’s such a prominent theme! And I love it soo much…
This series has SUCH good tunes……there are so many great songs…….all of them are so so so good….
I also want to share “Noi!” from Rebellion too! There are so many tracks I love….
YES!!!!!!! I love love love the soundtrack aswell! sis puella magica gives off the vibe of the entire show, it feels enchanted while still a little haunting...just really reminds me of the beginning cutscene of madokas "dream" where homura is trying to do everything alone. it feels so empty yet overwhelming, thats what that song gives off to me. and its also just a beautiful melody!
i JUST listened to noi, it is a SUPER.....charlotte nagisa bebe i never know which name to use-core!!!!! reminds me of witches, not specifically when they are fighting, but when you are first introduced to the labyrinth...for some reason it reminds me of a chant..it just makes me feel like you're the victim and they are a bunch of little things crowding around you getting ready to munch munch munch or something idk its just cute and foreign yknow

Actually now that i mention it, would Sayaka and Nozomi be at odds thorugh all of rebellion? At first with Nozomi wanting Homura dead and Sayaka wanting to help her, then at the end Sayaka in angellic avenger mode and Nozomi wanting to take the happy life chance Homura made
You're assuming that Nozomi would replace Nagisa as Madoka's archangel. Remember, the reason Nagisa is Nagisa instead of Nozomi is because of the butterfly effect caused by living in a world with no witches, and even if she were still Nozomi, she would be the Nozomi of the new world and lack the context that would cause Charlotte to hate Homura. The Charlotte that we know is from the timeline right before that, and would no doubt have very strong opinions regarding having her world overwritten, opinions that might drive her to make rash decisions should she suddenly find herself in the new timeline as a sort of fish out of water apart from Nagisa.
At any rate, she certainly wouldn't be part of Godoka's rescue attempt inside of Homura's soul gem.

Madoka Magica idea- the wishes of each character changes so they basically end up swapping powers around:
Mami ends up surviving the accident without needing to make a wish but her parents still end up dying, afterwards once her isolation and loneliness start setting in Kyubey shows up and she makes a wish to have the best tea party possible so she can make some friends, this results in her having Naisga/Charlotte’s sweets creation magic
Kyoko’s family still ends up dying maybe though starvation or a witch attack potentially but regardless she ends up making a wish to go back and save them giving her Homura’s time magic
Madoka wishes to heal Homura’s heart after getting attached to Moemura once she starts school so she ends up with Sayaka’s healing magic
After starting school again and getting the big social anxiety Homura wishes she could avoid attention and gets Kyoko’s illusion magic
Sayaka wishes to be a hero of justice able to save people and gets Madoka’s absurd power level
Nagisa gets Mami’s ribbon magic by wishing that her mom would live long enough for her to watch Nagisa eat some cheesecake in front of her
Some details don’t fit exactly like Kyosuke would have to either be uninjured or Madoka would have to heal him to avoid Sayaka using her wish to do so and there’s no real answer to why Sayaka would have Madoka’s level of power without the time loop shenanigans but that’s alright
Also if this means the Momo ends up with the massive karmic potential and becomes the Law of Cycles I have no clue

BTW I WOULD ALSO LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT ALL YOUR ENSTARS AUS especially the saint spell one if you couldnt tell...i am So interested
Most of the stuff I have planned out at the moment are just the roles but this still ended up being somewhat long because of formatting so everything is undercut
The St Spell's one hasn't been that thought out yet, I literally just came up with it yesterday. I'm thinking about whether to keep the original St Spell's character, or to make it Ensemble Square but, it's been replaced with a magic school (I have no idea how else to word this)
Thinking up some stuff at the time of writing this
I could see Koga, Shinobu, Jun, Rinne, and Wataru as Animas
Valkyrie and fine as Clockhearts (Originating from what, I'm not sure yet)
Undead as Nephilims?
The witches could have a magic skill related to something in Enstars (Natsume would definitely be a witch, I could see him take as many magic classes as possible and practice it with Sora and Aoba in the forests)
Yeah I'll figure this all out somehow
The MILGRAM one is something I worked on with two friends. We decided to have their backstories the same with some differences so there's a reason for the fact that they're in prison (Haven't figured out the crimes yet but the roles are done)
Es: Anzu Jackalope: Daikichi Haruka: Mayoi Yuno: Arashi Fuuta: Koga Muu: Aira Shidou: Tatsumi Mahiru: Niki Kazui: Madara Amane: Tori Mikoto: HiMERU Kotoko: Souma
Sadly no Smoker Gang in this AU
Alien Stage roles are
Mizi: Makoto Sua: Hokuto Till: Rinne (I decided to remove the whole Till likes Mizi thing ((I mean, it's an alternate universe, so)) Ivan: HiMERU Luka: Izumi Hyuna: Still kind of trying to figure this one out
I'm working on a Makoto and Hokuto edit for this AU but I don't know whether to draw Hokuto with long hair or not
Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun roles
Hanako: Kohaku Nene: Aira Kou: Hiiro Teru: Rinne Tsukasa: Tsukasa
This one is also still a work in progress. I'm thinking of writing a fic that follows the TBHK pilot so roles will probably be finalized by then
Anddd last but not least, takt.op Destiny (This is one I'm currently working on)
[C]: Conductor [M]: Musicart [O/R]: Other/Relative
Takt: Leo [C] Cosette: Tsukasa* [M] Anna: Arashi [O/R] Charlotte: Izumi [C] Extra character I added to be Izumi's Musicart: Ritsu** [M] Lenny: Madara [C] Titan: Kohaku [M] Schindler Valkyrie's Conductor: Shu*** [C] Valkyrie: Mika [M] Sagan: Eichi [C] Heaven: Nagisa [M] Hell: Hiyori [M] Kenji (Takt's Dad): Leo's Dad**** [O/R]
*: Something funny I realized this morning was that Tsukasa and Destiny are both sweet tooths
**: Charlotte isn't actually a Conductor, she doesn't have a Musicart, she works as an employee in the technology development department of New York Symphonica. I decided to give Izumi a Musicart in this AU to add all of Knights
***: Schindler doesn't have a Musicart (Despite working with Schindler, Valkyrie hasn't formed a pact with a Conductor), so instead of using a solo unit and separating a member from their unit I made it so Enstars Valkyrie replaces takt.op Valkyrie and Schindler
****: I don't know if Leo's dad has a name or not so I might end up using Kenji's name (So his name will be Kenji Tsukinaga)
That's a, pretty long list. If you read through all this thanks a lot, I'll be planning more and might make some art for these so I'll eventually dump some of it on here in the future

We're long overdue a merch showcase yaaayy! I've had a lot of great finds recently!
This is all my Madoka merch in my little shrine (plus some dolls and stuff that dont fit elsewhere :P my room is stuffed... ) I'm so happy to have everything I have, especially any witch stuff. Looking at it, you'd think homura was my favourite character but no XD its mami lol I've just happened along a lot of her stuff and I wanted to collect all her plaits figures. I have all the plaits homura kyun-chara now!!! :D
My recent additions are the nagisa nendoroid and school uniform homura cupoche and figma. The nagisa was £60 from ebay. Yes, its a lot and the most ive spent on anything but my god, she goes for over 100 usually, it was a steal (box and all). The homuras were £20 each from vinted which is even more of a steal, i am ecstatic about them because they also go for extortionate prices. (the only bad thing is that figma homu doesnt have a smiling face :( )
My favourite item is probably either my Lotte or Elly since they're both rare and I got them for good prices but also all of my Nagisa merch because damn she has nowhere near enough figure merch... Also the witch stage sets cause they're SO cute
The handmade stuff is (left to right): Elly figure, a human Elly doll made by my bestie for a doll trade, Charlotte figure, a Sasa doll from Oriko Magica, plush Candeloro at the top, Charlotte doll, Valentines charlotte figure, papercraft Oktavia (very top), back down is a Manuke figure, maid Lotte figure with custom Mami and Homura dolls above, swimsuit Homulilly figure and a Walpurgisnacht doll~!
Nagisa is certainly one I don't regret spending money on but I kinda do with the plaits homura dangler just right of Sasa. I got her because she was a good price (though still from america so the shipping was a lot). She's rarer so I thought she'd never show up again for a good price but then after I bought her I saw another listing??? So she's not that rare?! Like, come on... T-T I love her but I remember when she came, I didn't get that excitement spark from her. Maybe because she was smaller than I expected. I can't help but look at her and think 'eh, was she worth it..?' I guess I'm glad to have another plaits homura piece of merch...
On my wishlist is of course any witch merch and plaits homura as well as nagisa and cute mamis. Ones I'd really like are the school uniform mami nendoroid and maybe the maiko one (less so but she comes with charlotte :P ). Definitely the movic witch sets, though im less fussed about the familiars. My big wants are oktavia, walpurgis, patricia and elsa maria. Also the homulilly from the rebellion set but im sure she is way rarer... Nagisa's kyun-chara. I missed a good listing on ebay for that once and i regret it T-T The Mami and Charlotte stage set. It's the last one I want from the set..!

ARTW Bois watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Pmmm
So Vanessa got her choose the movie privileges back after Alpheratz begged Spica to just give this one show a chance
Like last time they went to the mansion, set up a projector, snacks and blankets were brought and a ton of tissue boxes because no on is going to trust her if it's a cute cover
Spica
Oh ok, so the anime does start with a darker tone from the get go, oh it was a dream
Madoka has such a nice family! Reminds him of his own childhood, her friends are so nice and wholesome too
His favourite character is Mami, she is a good leader and looks like has a good head on her shoulders, definitely someone who will accomplish great things when she gets older, plus she is so kind and caring!
The magic system reminds himself of the constellations, so he is even more intrigued
Fate is cruel, life is cruel, destiny is cruel, the universe is a constant state of agony and there is no harmony, things tend to move towards disorder, as there are more ways for that then to be orderly and that shall be the death of Universe itself, that is what is called entropy (tendency to move towards disorder)
He can see kuybey's logic and doesn't feel like he is a villain, for that Kuybey would have to know what's good and what's not and all he knows is what must be done, he can respect that though he doesn't like it
Alpheratz
So you wanna know why he begged Spica to let Vanessa pick on last show?
Vanessa told him the premise when he heard her and Vega talk about some wish granting white ferret and he was sold!
He is currently T-posing over Spica
Arcturus
So he believes in second chances
He likes the show so far, he really looks upto to Mami because she is a magical girl who not only fights witches but also takes care of school and her home all by herself, he wishes Madoka would be able to see her kindness as her strength and that is what the story is in his head
Thank god they brought the tissues the last flooding of tears was a disaster
"Wait witches are born from magical girls?"
"Well actually it's more so their trapped souls that transform into witches so they are pretty much still aware of everything going around them even after turning to witches"
He does like Homura, even if she creeps him out, he wants to have the dedication she did to protect Summoner from any harm, no matter how long it takes and not to mention she collected those stuff to fight Walpurgisnacht every single timeline too, he really wishes that she could keep her innocence, but such is life
Pollux
He was just fawning over Mami's cool moves, he knows they aren't practical at all, but who cares if it looks cool!
NOOO MAMI SHE DIDN'T GET ENOUGH SCREEN TIME!!!!
Oh atleast there is Sayaka, he dislikes Homura a lot, she isn't nice and is really mysterious, brooding and dramatic and comes up out of no where! Wait is this deja vu?
So homura wasn't a bad person! Plus the entire fight sequence with Walpurgisnacht actualy made him love her! Wait Madoka don't do that or you won't be able to be with your family and friends!!!! NOOOOO Q-Q
Vega
Ah he remembers this show, he has a new found appreciation for seiyaku I mean Sayaka and feels like he understands her a bit better than he did when he was a child, Sayaka isn't a complete idiot, more so a naïve and kind person realising they weren't selfless when it mattered most
Episode 10 rolls in and Vanessa and Vega are laughing meanwhile the guide committee is terrified of them because Mami lost her head figuratively speaking, but they haven't seen or heard the masterpiece that is Mami TETRIS
"Wait so we got Charlotte's backstory?"
"Yeah, she wished for a cheesecake instead of curing her mother so she dies from the fact that Nagisa or Charlotte, chose to not save her because she was an absolutely horrendous mother to her and instead wished for her mom's favourite food"
"oooh so that's why her theme is where is the cheese and it's a replacement for love"
"What is wrong with the both of you?"-clearly people who haven't heard Mami Tetris
Sirius
He just liked Homura from the beginning, he was having a kinnie moment, he really loves the artistic choices of the witches and their labryinths and the musical score is to die for
His favourite and last favourite moment simultaneously was when Madoka became Godoka, he likes it because she played the system like a fiddle and saved everyone, including herself, he dislikes it because all of that happened, Homura ran through how many years worth of timelines? 12? Wait what? That's even worse! All that pain she endured just lost like that in a fate worse than death (he would like rebellion, I just know it)
Ah but a bittersweet ending for his hopelessly romantic heart is just as good as an actual good end, though he really can't help but draw parallels to it from the play on Polaris Vanessa and him went to last time
He has started doing hair flips whenever he comes up from behind someone, especially if his hair smacks someone's face

Going back to the imagery and symbolism of the doppelganger and Gothic Double, I was reminded that not only does PMMM already has a name for a magical girl's shadow self (witch), it also has one specifically for Homura's as well. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that Homulilly's name hasn't come up more often in the speculation of who the "other" Homura might be, given their established connection.
This might seem like a stretch because the last time we saw Homulilly, she was a giant suicidal skeleton, but hear me out.
Rebellion gives us two examples of magical girls who are also witches: Sayaka and Nagisa. As a general rule, Sayaka and Oktavia appear as two separate entities, allowing Sayaka to fight on her own and have emotional moments with Kyouko while Oktavia clashes directly with Homulilly.
Meanwhile, Nagisa does the complete opposite: she embodies her witch Charlotte (both doll and worm forms), appearing as one or the other instead of both at the same time. In a scene that lives rent-free in my brain, she pulls the witch's clown mask over her face while in magical girl form, thus becoming both at once--but I don't think we ever see her split in the same way that Sayaka does with Oktavia.
Taken together, these examples imply that there are different ways magical girls and their witches can relate to each other. Though we have not yet seen a witch split from the original magical girl and take on her form at the same time, Homura, being the Devil, might have other abilities that Nagisa and Sayaka lack, or might be an exception to the general rule. (There is also the weirdness that Homulilly has dramatically different forms, depending on whether we're talking about the PSP game/Magia Records vs. Rebellion, which is unusual in and of itself.)
Homura may be the Devil, but she is also unquestionably still a witch. Not only does she still have her Clara Doll familiars, but her earcuff--her equivalent to a soul gem--says "HOMULILLY" now.
Tumblr media
Well, actually, it says HOMUL, but you get the point. Props to the animators for hiding an important detail from the ending in the opening credits.
Rebellion makes a big deal of the fact that soul gems in ring form are marked with the magical girl's name in witch runes--and that magical girls ARE their soul gems--so the fact that Devil!Homura appears to identify on some level as "Homulilly" is fascinating. It's unclear if Devil!Homura has the same relationship to her "Dark Orb" (a name I cannot say with a straight face) that a magical girl has to her soul gem, or if it's merely a device or a tool she created to channel for her powers, but either way, Homulilly is still around.
All this could potentially explain why Homulilly would take on Homura's form in Walpurgis no Kaiten--because on some level, they are the same. Homulilly-as-Homura's double/shadow self would also help retroactively explain why their names are so similar--unusually so for a magical girl and witch pair.
And if Homulilly is the doppelganger, then her motive for messing with Homura (whether that entails infiltrating her life, manipulating Madoka and/or destroying the world) is obvious. Because nobody hates Homura as much as Homura hates herself. Nobody would understand how best to get under Homura's skin than she would. Nobody would be able to anticipate and counter everything Homura does than her own reflection. And it would take all of the suicidal imagery from Rebellion and dial it up to eleven.
Because Homulilly is never directly mentioned by name in Rebellion (only getting a brief title card in witch runes), even if I'm right and this other Homura is Homulilly, I'm not sure that any of the characters in Walpurgis no Kaiten would ever refer to her by this name directly. She herself, if pressed, might say some variation on "I'm you" to Homura, where her identity becomes clear in context. Alternately, that name might appear again in runes (anything in runes is for the audience's benefit, not the characters).
But I'd be very surprised if Homulilly didn't turn up in some fashion in Walpurgis no Kaiten--and this other Homura seems like an obvious candidate given what we know thus far.
